Why Routine & Dedication Matter More Than Motivation
Hey friends! š¬
Letās be realāmotivation is awesome⦠when itās there. You know that rush of excitement when you start something new? You feel unstoppable, energized, ready to crush your goals.
But hereās the thing no one tells you at the start: motivation fades. Every. Single. Time. š
So what keeps you going when that shiny newness wears off? The answer Iāve found (through plenty of trial and error!) is simple but powerful:
š Routine and dedication.
Today, I want to chat about why motivation alone isnāt reliableāand how building solid routines and sticking with them no matter what is the real secret to long-term success.
The Problem with Relying on Motivation š«
Motivation is like a guestāit shows up when it feels like it and disappears without warning. One day youāre crushing your habits, and the next? Youāre dragging your feet, wondering why you ālost your spark.ā
And you know what? Thatās normal. Motivation is tied to emotions, energy levels, and external factors we canāt always control.
Thatās why waiting to āfeel motivatedā before you act is a trap.
What Actually Works: Routine + Dedication š
What does work? Creating a routine thatās so ingrained, it becomes automatic. Itās about showing up even when you donāt feel like itābecause your commitment is stronger than your excuses.
For me, that looks like:
My morning routine (coffee + collagen, a few minutes of mindset reading, and planning my day) āš
My nighttime routine (gratitude journaling, reading my Bible, and stretching) š
My wellness non-negotiables (hydration, movement, and rest) ā
I donāt always feel like doing these thingsābut Iāve trained myself to do them anyway. And you know whatās wild? Once you start, the motivation often follows.
Why Routines Build Confidence šŖ
Hereās something Iāve learned: every time you stick to your routineāeven when itās hardāyou build trust in yourself.
You prove:
⨠I can keep promises to myself.
⨠Iām stronger than a bad mood or tired day.
⨠I donāt need to be perfectāI just need to be consistent.
That self-trust is GOLD. It spills over into every other area of life.
How to Strengthen Your Dedication Muscle š«
If youāre feeling stuck right now, hereās my best advice:
1ļøā£ Start small. Build one habit into your daily routine that you know you can stick with. (Even if itās just 2 minutes of deep breathing!)
2ļøā£ Make it visible. Set reminders, keep your planner open, or leave notes where youāll see them.
3ļøā£ Track your wins. Check off a box or jot down a simple note every time you complete your habitāit keeps momentum going.
4ļøā£ Give yourself grace. Missed a day? Donāt spiral. Just get back at it tomorrow. Consistency is about showing up most of the timeānot all of the time.
My Encouragement to You š
Itās okay if motivation comes and goesāitās supposed to. The key is having your routine and dedication in place, so youāre not dependent on those fleeting feelings.
Remember: the small, consistent things you do each day are what create big, lasting change. Youāve got this. šŖ
