A Day in My Life as an EMS Worker & Wellness Coach

Hey friends! šŸ’¬

I thought it would be fun (and maybe a little eye-opening šŸ‘€) to share a behind-the-scenes look at what my days really look like balancing two of my biggest passions: my job in EMS and my wellness coaching business. Spoiler: It’s not always glamorous—but it’s always worth it.

If you’ve ever wondered how I juggle it all, or if you’re in a busy season yourself and thinking, ā€œHow can I possibly fit in time for my wellness?!ā€, this one’s for you. šŸ’›

Morning: EMS Shift Hustle šŸš‘

I work 911 EMS, and my shifts are early. Like... 3:45 AM wake-up early. šŸ˜… As much as I’m not a natural morning person, sticking to my bedtime routine (hello, 9 PM!) has made a huge difference.

Here’s how my mornings typically flow:

āœ… Coffee + collagen first thing. It’s non-negotiable and feels like my little ritual to wake up my body + mind.
āœ… Quick stretch. Even 2 minutes counts when I know I’ll be sitting in an ambulance for hours.
āœ… Pack my wellness essentials. Hydration + gut health packets, protein snacks—must-haves to get through the shift.

Honestly, my EMS shifts are unpredictable. Some days we’re nonstop; other days there’s downtime. I’ve learned to:

  • Squeeze in deep breaths and mindset resets between calls.

  • Stay hydrated (seriously—it makes a huge difference in my energy).

  • Give myself grace when wellness looks like simply surviving the day.

Afternoon: Reset + Recharge šŸŒž

After a 12-hour shift, I’m tired. But I’ve found ways to recharge without totally crashing:

✨ Gentle movement. Sometimes it’s a walk with my dogs, other days it’s just some light stretching to unwind my body.
✨ Nourishing food. I crave something fresh—usually a smoothie or easy bowl with lots of veggies.
✨ Me-time moment. Whether it’s reading, journaling, or sitting outside, I prioritize 20–30 minutes of quiet time to reset my mind.

And you better believe I’m in bed early to get that sleep I need to do it all again!

Evening (or Days Off): Wellness Business Mode šŸ’»

On my days off, it’s time to switch hats and focus on growing my wellness business. I love these days because I get to pour into my passion for helping other women feel their best.

What this looks like:

šŸ–‹ Planning & content creation. I brainstorm blog posts (like this one!), make reels, and connect with my wellness community.
šŸ’¬ Checking in with clients. I love seeing how everyone is doing and supporting them with tips + encouragement.
ā˜• Working with intention. I’ve learned to batch my tasks so I can be super focused and still make time for myself.

How I Balance It All (Most Days šŸ˜‰)

I get a lot of questions like: How do you manage working EMS AND running a business? The truth? It’s not about doing everything perfectly—it’s about prioritizing small, sustainable habits that support my well-being no matter how busy I am.

My top 3 tips:

1ļøāƒ£ Plan ahead. I map out my week so I know where my pockets of time are.
2ļøāƒ£ Stay flexible. Some days go sideways, and that’s okay. Progress > perfection.
3ļøāƒ£ Fill my own cup. If I’m not taking care of myself, I can’t show up fully for anyone else.

My Big Takeaway

Whether you’re working long shifts, raising a family, or juggling all the things—remember: you don’t have to choose between your busy life and your wellness. It’s 100% possible to weave in small, meaningful habits that make you feel grounded and cared for.

Your journey doesn’t have to look like mine (and honestly, I hope it’s not as hectic šŸ˜…), but I hope this peek into my world inspires you to find your own rhythm.

Are you balancing a busy life + wellness too? I’d love to hear what works for you—drop a comment and let’s chat! šŸ’¬

Big hugs,
Erin
